What would cause steering wheel to lock up while driving?

I have a 2003 Jeep Liberty. It seems as though every time it gets wet out it acts up. The heat will come on full blast by itself, the dome lights will flicker on and off when the vehicle is parked, but scariest of all the steering will lock up while driving. I will have to come to a complete stop, turn the car off & then on again for it to unlock. I have taken it to be looked at twice! No problems found. What is going on?

10 Points: My Jeep is broken! Description to follow. What could be wrong?

I was coming home from about a 25 minute trip, and I stopped at a stop light. My car starting shaking and making a very bad noise. I panicked and drove into the nearest parking lot. As I drove, it was still shaking. When I stopped and put it in park, it was shaking even harder. I turned it off and turned it back on again. I let it sit there overnight (my dad owns the building of the parking lot and it has cameras) and the next morning I went back. The check engine light had come on, and when I turned the car on it was still shaking and then it turned itself off.

I really love my jeep, she’s a 2002 liberty with about 140,000 miles on her. She’s going to the shop tomorrow, but I want to know what’s wrong and about how much it will cost to fix her.

Hello all,

I have a 2003 Jeep Liberty and recently I’ve had some problems. I went to start the car and the starter seemed really sluggish. After turning off my car and attempting to start it again, the car would not run.

After calling Roadside Assistance, the mechanic claimed the battery cap came off and all of the battery fluid splashed out, thus causing the battery to die and the alternator to carry all of the workload. He replaced the battery fluid with bottled water, jumped the car, and it seemed to run fine so long as I did not let the engine idle (the car dies when idling). After carefully driving for several miles, the car seemed to start again without problem for a few days. But sure enough, this morning it would not start again. So I give it a jump once again. As soon as I let off the accelerator, the engine dies.

Does this sound like an alternator problem? Thank you!
